I found the sound and pacing of the movie “Columbus” by Kogonada really interesting. Although it seems here is almost no sound throughout the movie there is actually a lot of it, but because we are so used to Hollywood’s narratives, sound use, and pacing of the storyline it makes it really hard to figure out the soundtrack. The pacing of the editing was also so different, I reminded to the movie Hukkle by György Pálfi; I interpreted the slowness in the progress of the narrative as Kogonada’s attempt to emphasize the unspoken dialogues between the characters and the a way of creating the intimate feel the movie has.

I agree that this film does a really sensational job of creating narrative intimacy. By the end of the film, you really feel like you understand and empathize with the characters and their situation. I think its interesting how the film utilizes the built environment to create this sense of intimacy as well as the characters own actions and thoughts.
